Wife and I have Shoei modular helmets with J&M headsets. For the first couple outings everything worked great. We could talk comfortably to each other in normal voices. I even got a phone call while traveling 70 mph and the guy who called me had no idea I was on a motorcycle. On a recent ride, I could not hear my wife talk. She could hear me fine as well as the music we were listening to. I thought it was a headset problem like her mic wire pulled out so I took it back to where we bought the helmets and headsets. No problems noted. As a test I plugged my headset into the rear plug and hers into the front plug. Then I could hear her but she couldn't hear me. Okay, it's the wiring in the rear plug, right? But yesterday after a lunch ride I plugged both headsets in for the ride home and I could hear her fine. I will take it to the dealer but I also know there is nothing worse than an intermittent problem when it comes to diagnosis, especially when it is working like it should. So I'm gathering as much information as I can before I take it in and just wondering if anybody else has experienced something like this.
I thought I should submit an update to this issue. We have not had the problem since I originally posted this. Everything is working fine with no effort on my part. Go figure. I hope I didn't jinx myself by posting this update.
We have the hd headsets and have the exact problem. She can hear me in the back but I cannot hear her in the front. The light in the radio shows she is talking but nothing into the front headset. All other functions gps tuner media etc works fine. Took to dealer and he messed with the settings and was good. After about a week back to no com from the rear. Swapped headsets front to rear, problem remained in the rear.
Stopped for gas and had to unplug the front (dropped gas cap). Took off down the road had no noise in the front. Stopped to plug back in. When I did all functions came back, rear worked good sound was louder all was fine. Has been good since but don't believe it will last long. I believe it has nothing to do with the headsets and more to do with the radio. My dealer is just down the road so when it acts up again, IF I can stop riding long enough to have them look at it I will.
We have had it a month and a half and put 3000 miles on it. I love this machine.
Wife and I have used the Sena SMH10 units for years. OUTSTANDING units for bike to bike intercom. They do everything advertised. Bluetooth to phone and MP3 players. Biggest thing (my opinion) is the Jog Dial. 1 button to do almost all functions. If you are wearing gloves it is hard to find (feel) the buttons on other units. IF anything ever happens to these units I'll buy the 20S units in a heartbeat.
I recently bought the SMH 10's and agree these are great units
It has been 15 days since the last post and haven't had a problem. Have ridden every day and used the intercom, no problem. ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??

No software update as it's only 2 months old. Version 19. something. Helmets are 1/2 for the wife and a 3/4 for me both Harley. Am plugging them in with the engine running and pushing in hard on both ends of the cord everytime (thanks KJB) but other than that they just keep working, knock on wood.
Thank you....We have identical situations (helmet configuration too)...Can you tell me the intercom settings you are using for the VOX?

Ok Here we go again. Went out today no intercom from rear headset.
Thought about it all the while we were riding (two hours). Dealer closed today naturally.
She hears me but I don't hear her. Plug and unplug and plug numerous time no help. Dash shows it trips but no volume just like before.
Checked and none of the settings had changed. What the ?????????????????
Trips but no volume? Told her to count to 20. While she was counting I pushed up on the volume control. Bingo. Display comes up showing the volume go up and I can hear now. Raise the volume when she is talking does it. Why it goes away on it's own I don't know but I can get it back when needed. Hope this helps someone else.
I have a 2015 Tri-Glide, still using the Harley headsets on our helmets, and having some of the same problems mentioned here, but for the most part they work OK except for one thing. I absolutely cannot get the VOX setting right so that the microphone does not come on when we are not talking into the mike.
If we stay under 50 - 55 it is OK. But if I start to get over 60 the mikes start coming on intermittently. And it is annoying as hell. I have tried every VOX setting, I can adjust the VOX setting with my eyes close because I have done it so many times.
Now getting to my question, does anyone have any answers on how to fix this on the Harley headsets? Or is the answer going to a different brand of headset...J&M or Sena? For what it's worth, I had RCS slip-on pipes installed when I got the scooter, and it is a bit louder than stock pipes, but I don't think this is causing my problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I hope the answer is to always stay under 50 MPH.
