If these are the heated grips you are referring to then note the "Fitment" requirements

Fits '16-'17 DynaŽ FXDLS, '16-later SoftailŽ and '08-later Touring and Trike models with Original Equipment Stainless Steel handlebars. Does not fit CVO™ models or models with chrome handlebars. '16-later SoftailŽ models require separate purchase of Electrical Connection Kit P/N 72673-11. '14-'16 Touring and Trike models require separate purchase of Electrical Connection Kit P/N 69200722. '17-later Touring and Trike models require Electrical Connection Kit P/N 69201599. Does not fit ’08-’13 models with internally wired handlebars.

I bought a set of Harley heated grips for my wife's Freewheeler and had Harley install them. The left grip is externally wired, the right is internal. Was not cheap for labor, but my wife loves them. We go up to the Smokie's three or four times a year, they work great for her. David

FWIW, I have two H-D's with heated grips.
My CVO came with them as standard equipment (wired through the handlebars) and I had them installed on my Tri-Glide when I had my Heli-bars installed and ALL wiring on these bars are external.

Additionally, on both of these bikes I also have heated seats and I installed a "power jack" mounted into the LH heat shield where I can plug in my heat gear (gloves and jacket liner).

IMHO, for the price (and ease of installation) of the power jack and used with heated gloves is a much better investment and the heated gloves keeps my hand (and fingers) much warmer than heated grips and non-heated gloves.
