I know this is a simple problem to fix but I’m lost. I had my 13 y.o. grandson remove the starter motor from my 2009 Tri-Glide. Now I’m at a loss, besides the positive cable there is also a second wire, I believe is a ground wire, but i am at a loss as to where it goes.
any help is much appreciated

It probably not a ground. Frame grounded. It's the hot wire that when you hit start feeds 12.7 volt DC to the magnet in the solinoid. That pulls the big copper terminal in to feed starter from that big 12.7 volt line you show.
Both wires are positive. It's about a number 8 wire I would guess.
However, in your photo, that looks big. Did you get the small wire on the other side?
fallow the wire see where it goes. if goes back to battery negative then ground it to the starter bolt if it goes to the fuse box hook it to starter positive post under the boot. looks like wire to fuse box
Thank you guys just got back from Bull Run Harley in Manassas VA. a couple of hours ago and he and y’all confirmed what the other has stated it is the wire running from the fuse box and it does hookup with the positive terminal. Totally new setup for me only worked on pickup truck starters. And RipSaw you’re right it is very close to a #8 if not a #8.
again thanks a lot,
cajun..
