Default Trunk Lock Assembly

The other day my gal had lock assembly come out of her trunk 11 TG. It started with the black plastic sliding out away from the trunk, which she would push back. Then the whole assembly came out. It appears the are a couple of plastic tabs that broke off the the inside end of the plastic sleeve around the chrome lock set. She has been able to open the trunk by inserting the chrome lockset back in the hole each time and removing it so it doesn't get lost.

Took it to the dealer yesterday for warranty repair and they said they had to order a whole new keyed lock assembly. The dealer let her keep the TG until the part comes in then they will set her up with another appointment.

Mine came out too. The dealer had the clip in stock and fixed it during my 1000 mile service. He said that they have had 5 or 6 of them go bad.

My TriGlide was delivered August 2011 and is a 2011 model. The plastic collar on the trunk lock failed on its maiden voyage. The dealer ordered and installed a whole new assembly. Last month during my 10,000 mile service I noticed that the collar was sticking out about 1/8". The service manager said that they had failures on just about 100% of the 2011"s. The good news is that there is a redesigned replacement and they had many in stock. I am talking about the plastic collar that goes around the metal opening button. it only took 5 minuted to place the button in the collar and snap it in. He added that none of the redesigned parts have failed. Large dealer so I take them at their word. My riding buddy with the exact same bike has had the same experience. He carries a spare collar.

Hopefully the new part will hold up better than the original junk plastic.
