Interesting observation. Here is the situation, brand new VRSCF I picked up last summer 2014. Put about 3000 miles before winters bite put the bike away. Each time I filled up the tank (go by gallons pumped 4.5) the trip indicator would read 200 miles to empty. Now after taking the bike out for several rides, the best trip indicator on a FULL (cannot get more gas into tank full) is 140 miles. This is an annoyance more then anything, anyone e else have similar problem?
I believe it is based off your current mpg, similar to modern automobiles. Hence it will change based on your riding style and conditions. I also noticed that mine gas Guage will fluctuate alot depending on the number of consecutive turns in a period of time.
