I wear a novelty helmet. I've had my bike up over 100mph wearing one. Its not a comfortable feeling knowing you have no protection, but I have tried the best Arai full face and I have tried the DOT half helmet. I feel they seriously inhibit my ability to ride safely and anticipate danger. My goal is to ride safe - but I can't have my clothing and helmet annoying me and distracting me away from paying attention to the road. Some people can ride with all that 'gear' . I find it annoying and inhibiting.
http://www.carbonfiberhelmets.com/news.htm The best protecting and most comfortable novelty helmet I've ever used. The liner is real nice and doesn't give you helmet head. No lift compared to daytona's.

My wife and I have two of these DOT carbon fiber helmets and I've got to say they're the closest thing to a novelty.
Although, they were really expensive; a$185 a piece. I agree if you're over 18 it should be helmet optional.
Last statistics I read said that helmets actually caused as muchdamage than they saved, seems that they "may" save your noggin but can cause spine damage - I presumeby transferring the force of impact?? I also read that helmets were only good for something like a 13mph impactand if you dropped one from a certain height that you're suppose to replace it ??Who's gonna do that with an expensive helmet???
The way I see it, it all depends on how you land whether they help or hurt or do nothing- you spin the wheel and take your chances. I wear a novelty helmet, wouldn't wear one at all 'cept for the law - I believe it should bean individual choice for adults - I think seatbelts should be too. I've worked in the medical field and in law enforcement so I've seen and heard a lot - pro and con......

Good grief. State your sources and link to them. Will the BS on this subject never end??
I believe it was from ABATE ... it's been a while ... we're trying to get the law changed here in MS and I read it in connection with national studies...not BS...I don't think I saved it, but if I find it again, You'll be the first to know.......
I tend to agree- I know of several riders that wore full face helmets, got hit, went down and died regardless. I think riding a motorcyle is dangerous not matter how you look at it. Wearing safety gear should be a matter of choice. Right now I rely on my riding skills to keep me out of trouble. Not to say that I wouldn't look into one of those carbon fiber lightweight helmets. I just haven't found anything that I feel comfortable in enough yet. I have gone through at least 5 helmets in the last 2 years and my novelty is the most comfy.
