They were and still are exceptionally popular in Europe. They have a huge following and great customisation theme going on over there. Here are 'his and hers' versions and a 'slightly' chromed version I spotted at Hamburg Harley Festival last year.
ya need to check out macus walz hardcore customs out of Hockenheim or munich germany. some of his bikes are in the vrod vein of things. only more radical.
I agree with a lot of what's been said...my V-Rod was about the most fun I've ever had on a Harley. Because they get a lot of shade thrown their way, the value proposition is insane on them.
I owned a 07 V-Rod. The former owner installed SE heads, cam, 2/1 exhaust along with Legend air ride.
I also installed forward controls, batwing fairing and modified handlebars. Sold several years ago. Nice bike to ride around town.

Yeah, I’m looking at an 04. I heard there were some tranny issues with the earlier models, but they got them ironed out by 04.
Actually the changes in the transmission wasn't done until the 2005 models,
which was a 4/5 shift fork update along with the Shifter Actuator and spring assy change.
The coolant bottle update was also done in 2005.
