I'm doing a leak down test on an 03 v rod, how do I get to top dead center without bumping the starter?, can I go through clutch side and turn with a bar?, thank you in advance
Pull the plugs, put it in 5th or 6th gear (depends on your trans) put a long straw in the front plug hole and rotate the rear tire until the straw is at its longest sticking out of the plug hole.
I don't know what BBM said as he's a racist turd and usually never leaves the POD
and on my ignore list. But the reason for 5/6 gear is the gear to engine ratio is higher.
The best thing is to get a factory manual. There is no 6th gear in the VRSC platform.
The 2 bolt cover on the stator side is removable and has access to the crankshaft. DO NOT ROTATE ENGINE BACKWARDS IT WILL CAUSE CAM TIMING TO JUMP AND CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE
Then get either a 8mm or 5/16 drill bit to use for the TDC locking tool inserted between cylinder heads on right side after removing the TDC plug
BTW you cannot do a leakdown at TDC on a 02-07 due to compression release cams hold the exhaust valves open. There is a specific procedure to do a leakdown on a 1130cc. Also the Compression Test on a 1130 is going to be about 100psi or so different between front and rear cylinders Front is always low.
