Default 03 VROD Electrical Issues

I am working on getting my bike started. When I turned the key to ignition the cluster flashed then went dead. When I turned it to accessory the lights came on, but that’s it. Replaced the battery and starter relay. Hooked up the new battery and the marker lights came on with no key in the ignition. Put the key in and turned to ignition and all the lights came on but no cluster and no fuel pump prime. Turned the bike off and removed the key and the marker lights stay on. I removed the security fuse and the lights went out. I even tried disabling the alarm with the FOB but no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Curious to know if you ever determined what the issue was?

When ever I have had odd electrical issues it has come down to corrosion in an electrical connector, particularly the ones under the left side cover on the "tank" on my VRSCF. Unplugging the connectors and giving them a good spray of contact cleaner sorted things out.

Also all the connectors under the seat become quite dirty due to mud etc being sprayed up from the rear tyre. Worth cleaning all these connectors too and maybe adding a mud deflector under the seat.

My Regulator/Rectifier failed, I found that the two connectors on the back, although weather "booted" were badly corroded. The radiator cowl collects mud and water which sit around the connectors. Drilling 2 small draining holes on the underside of the centre cowling has fixed this.

Hope this helps anyone out there. The CAN system can give some odd symptoms if it sees a poor/missing/unexpected connection.

Some great advice, I'll add an issue we chased on another vehicle. Corrosion had traveled up a blade fuse and everything looked fine but it only allowed partial voltage through. Changed the fuse and a problem we spent an hour chasing disappeared.
