Hate to say it, but you didn't tell us much. What models are they? Does one fit your riding style better than the other? Seems the 1250s also put on a little weight. The extra torque and HP disappears under the weight. If you are comparing an '07 D with a 180 tire to an '08 A or DX with the 240 tire, in addition to the weight penalty, the 240 gives up another 5 ponies. If you are comparing an '07 D, DX or R to an AW, the A/B exhaust gives up 5 horses to the other exhaust. A 1250 A has the same hp and torque as the lighter D. ABS is new for '08.
I did my best to totally confuse you.
The 08s are didn't pick up any weight, the big year was 07 with the larger tank/frame/tins... All three models in 08 are qouted as weighing exactly the same as 07s, you will have to go back to 06 to get lighter. So in terms of power between and 07 and 08, there is no question...the the 08 D and DX only pick-up 5 horses at the cranck from 07, the AW picks up 8 for 123hp at the cranck. The difference is the exhaust... and on that note, if you change out the exhaust, A/C and tune (like 90%+ of us do), not only can you ignore the difference in the stock exhaust, but you will see the 1250cc perform the way it's supposed to. The 08 didn't gain as much power as they ought to have because the tune is even leaner than in previous years, due to EPA regulation.

Now the D will be the quickest of the 08s in stock form becuas of the rear tire, just as an 07D or R will be quicker than an 07 AW or DX.

All the models from a given year have the same powerplant, the slight differnce in output is caused by the exhuast setup (which I bet you change out anyways), all the 08s are faster than all the 07s, except the VRSCX which also has the 1250cc engine.

No offense to anyone but:

Don't let the folks with the older 1130cc models try and fool you; it's always hard when something newer, bigger and better comes along, and it will happen to all of us. Sorry, you all know you are talkign out of your a$$es if you want to pretend a 9% boost in engine size doesn't matter. It's not just peaks, look at a dyno sheet, it pulls harder through the entire power range. A typical 1130cc with a good pipe, A/C and tune will produce 100 to about 109hp at the rear wheel, and 70-76 ftilbs of tq, a few a little more with a really good tune. The 1250 produces exactly what it should, about 9-10% more, with A/C, a good set of pipes and a tune, between 113 and 120hp depending on setup is tpyical, with low to mid 80s for tq standard. What is misleading is that the 08s come from the factory more de-tuned than previous models, and need to tuned in order to perform at their potential.

All you have to do is run the numbers through any 1/4 mile calculator and see that the increase power more than offsets the weight difference between the 08s and the 06s.

ABS is not an option for 07, and the 07s have that extra weight and smaller engine... making the 07AW possible the slowest V-Rod produced...

I think Monk covered it well , and is correct. Only argument that is debatable is the 240 vs 180 rotating mass issue. Owners of both will drag that out for hours. That issue doesn't apply here.

P.S.- Monk, you just pissed off all the 07 owners !

I have to add however that the 9% increase in engine size will only matter if you are comparing equally equipped bikes with equal riders in equal conditions. I don't think anyone is arguing this point against me, I just thought it should be said.

And you're right triple buzz, I would argue the 240 vs. 180 til I'm blue in the face, but like HarleyGirl76 said, it's not going to matter most of the time.

Just the opinion of a shallow So. Cal. girl going for looks over performance.

Uh, yah. Like I'm supposed to believe that? You have an anodized bike, maybe with a black stripe. ***** G. wanted the V-rods anodized because it gave them a perfomance look that suited the bike's abilities, according to him. You can try that line in the airhead threads, Lisa, but it ain't a gonna work over hyere, young lady!! (Consider yerself properly berated!)

You're lucky you have a choice between two D's. They're rare.

I humbly accept your berating though I don't really understand it. Just my opinion - I'd choose the looks of the bike over the performace because I'm not even close to using the power I already have and my bike is so old it doesn't compare to the newer ones..... Now, about the airhead threads, could you point me in that direction and I'll quit botherin you fellas....

Too bad.

The 07 Rs are badass!

And they didn't get fat for 07!

Got the blacked-out parts!

If it were an 07R, or 08D it'd be a harder choice.

You wouldn't like it over there. All they do is talk about how fast their bikes are...
