Default RE: Bike Choice

Thanks everybody for the feedback!! decisions decisions .... I like the 08 upgrades (especially safety related like ABS), but like the 07 color ... decisions decisions.

I rode the DX about 15 minutes and really liked it a lot. I'd have to get use to the higher rev with the 5 speed though. I know this will probably not go over well in here, but I'm not sure about an all black bike and wanted a different color. I do like the black frame much better then the silver frame. I'm 6'-(1"-2") ish and wondered how the longer rides would be on the D at my height? I do like the looks of the D model and the dual foot placements.

Monk - thanks for the excellent feedback. I didn't know about the "R" model and yeah, the black frame does look pretty good. Think that bike would be a better fit for my height? I guess it's very hard to find a 07 "R" anyway. Some "R" parts are not interchangable with other v-rods. There are lots of 06's but hardly any 07's for sale. Man, that "R" might just stand for "red haired step child" instead of street rod - lol. But no biggie for me as I'm use to that. I have a corvette that is most definatly the red haired step child - even the motor was designed by lotus and build by a boat motor builder (that tends to be a much more durable motor) - made lots of records but parts are so scarce and sooooo expensive if found -- GM turn their backs ... but anyway. I noticed the "R" model doesn't have the front foot pegs and that stinks. The "R" seat doesn't look as comfie as the "D", but the "R" does look highter and I do like that as it might be a better fit. I wish there was a place to ride them all for a test run. I wonder if the 07 "R" has the aluminum frame painted black so that would make the performance about the same as the 08 "D"? Thanks for the patients. I'm learning and have a ways to go - obviously.

Don't worry about it. We're about the same height. Personally, I liked the stock rider seat on the D. Looks great and rides just fine. My wife didn't like the D pillion, so now we have a Sundowner. She loves it.
I have done 400+ mile days on both seats, usually with a passenger, my wife. The D excels at long range cruising due to the dual foot placement. The throttle lock also helps, just don't crank it down too tight. I leave it just tight enough to hold but loose enough to make minor adjustments or roll it off or get on it if I have to.With the mid controls, it will tear up the twisties with or with out a passenger.
As for color, mine is a black on red 06. Wife wanted black, I didn't. We get a lot of compliment on not having a black bike or a silver V-rod.

Yes DesertSpeed. I've read your post about distance rides. It's good to know were about the same height and the bike works out well! Thanks!

I watched that movie on the design process and history of the V-Rod - very good!!!
