Hi sportsterjeep i would think that harley could up the horsepower a little to run with the sportbikes.With the vrod being watercooled opens up the door for alot of performance just look at pro stock drag bikes in the nhra those vrods there with vtwin power beat the japanese bikes every week.Seems to me that they could do it off the showroom too if they wanted to.
I know a couple that have dyno'd at 160 at the rear wheel. Seen a couple of claims of 200, but never seen proof. Me, with my K&\\;N air filter and synthetic oil, I get 109 at the rear. Not sure if one or other or the combination of the two gave me the extra pony, but they added almost 15% to my gas mileage.

When you get up to 200 RWHP, the cases just don't hold up. \\; I'm not saying you can't get there, but when you do, you're looking at catastrophic failure of the cases, sooner rather than later. \\;

I think we tend to get off track when we start talking about power criusers and sport bikes, the V-Rod is an awesome power criuser, plenty of torque, and a great top end charge.....for a cruiser, you cannot put the V-Rod in the same class as an SS bike, there is no comparison, and after all, HD is not after speed, but now the V-Rod has plenty of get up and go, now everyone wants that speed, kinda funny isn't it. Anyhoot, it's a power cruiser, 600 plus pounds, and you going to put that up agaisnt a 370 pound SS bike, not even close, a little 600cc SS bike will beat up on a V-Rod, as for 1000cc, don't even bother to show up. Now you mention drag bikes, sure thats one thing, going fast in a straight line whipty do, anyone can hold on for 6secs, we are talking about everyday riding. Now \\; you want more top end out of a V-Rod, how much money will you have dump into an already $17,000 bike, it just doesnt make sense, escpcially when HD is not about the speed but the joy of cruising, but \\; if you want HP SS bikes is where you will get top end charge right out of the box for $8000, kinda unfair isn't it lol.
Anyone(cruiser rider) \\;\\\\\\;who would make that comparison hasn't ridden a modern sport bike.
you are absolutely right, they have no idea, if they think a V-Rod pulls hard, imagine there faces on a 1000cc hitting around 8000rpm, that V-Rod will feel like a 125cc bike in comparison
