Smile No troubles?

I think it's telling that for the time I've been checking this model's thread, no one has posted any troubles. Are these bikes that well made or just still under warranty? Have a '01 XL1200C & '97 FLSTC and would love to trade someday for a Night Rod. So what say you V-rod owner's, what's up?

Just got done with V-Rod section at MMI and, while certain things are a PITA (i.e.: changing plugs, valve lash, etc.), I like them. Very well designed engine. Would have to test ride though; some like the VRSCR are uncomfortable for me and too high a seat height. VRSCD/X was good and gotta love the black. Done any mods? Pipes are too quiet! but ain't they all. Just wish HD would stop trying to make a drag bike into a cruiser! The selling point for me is the peak HP of 115 @ the crank at 8500RPM! Just a leeetle more than more Sporty! LOL '05 class did a mod-bike VRSCB for display purposes and took rear fender off (seat sits on it's rail over 200mm tire w/o tail/turnlight assembly), lowered the back end by making the shocks solid (ow! for riding), added a chrome swing arm assembly, and removed the muffler at the "1" branch of the 2-1-2 system and bolted on a "cheapy chrome"-brand turn out (looks better than sounds). The seat is less than belt height (you can literally step over it) and sounds so cool. Anyhow, thanks for the response and the opportunity to drool...

I have had a couple of problems. I started to notice that while riding at night my headlight would go dim and then get brighter, very inconsistent. I bought a turnsignal relo kit from the HD dealer. When installing the kit, you have to remove the left side triangle shaped cover (sorry dont know the technical name) behind the front forks to get to the turnsignal plugs. I found that the voltage regulator mounted on back of the battery had the negative lead completely off and the positive lead was half way off. I am guessing the vibrations rattled them loose. You would think that the dealer would have put some loctite or something to keep them from falling off. Nothing major here.

The only major problem that I had was the fuel sensor in my tank was faulty. It would show the right level and then all of a sudden go to empty. The HD dealer said that this is a design flaw and that they have a redesigned unit available to change it out to, but nothing to cause for a major recall. They said it was changed on a case by case basis. It didnt affect how the engine would run since the fuel flow wasnt affected. Just a gauge read out, just caused you to keep an eye on your mileage more. I had mine replaced under warranty and havent had any problems since. I love my bike. I started riding back in June and just hit the 4000 mile mark. I have made a bunch of mods on my bike. Now just working on tuning the dynojet to the right level. I am running lean and the Force slipons I installed are turning a yellow tint. Just need the time to tune it, I am too busy out having fun riding my bike!

So much for the new & improved sending unit they started using on the '07's! Loose connections are nothing new, just something that needs checked now and again. Don't like those fuel pump systems: reminds me of my Ford Ranger XLT pump and I have changed those more than I've changed the tires. Ever had it upgraded for the pipes or does the PC do all the EFI mapping for that? Does that require a laptop? The aftermarket or SERT's fangles aren't something I consider my "expertise" (more like "I'm ignorant regarding")!

I bought a dynojet power commander III from an online dealer. Told them what kind of pipes and air filter and they sent me the unit pre-programmed with a suitable map. The dynojet came with a software cd for installing on a laptop where you can hook up to the unit with a usb cord and tweek the settings that way. I just havent had time to do that. I should have some time this weekend to give it a shot. I will let you know how things work out if you like.
