Default battery charge

Had a problem with the battery going flat between rides and it has been suggested that I should get a plug fitted so when the bike is not in use
just plug in and keep it on charge.Quetsion is:with the battery on constant charge will it give off fumes and stuff the paint work or wiring.

I have a battery maintainer on my bike, and I have never had a problem with any fumes causing problems. The maintainer needs to "float", meaning that it will quit actively charging the battery when it reaches the proper level and "maintain" the charge.

I have run a cable along the length of the bike so the end is under the seat, thus I don't have to mess with the airbox cover to charge the battery.

the battery tender jr is one of the most popular maintainers... however there are others out there that are more reasonably priced. I installed my cable forward of the battery and out the right side by the maxi-fuse. I do have to remove the side cover but it is no big deal. I only hook it up in the winter when I know I will not be able to ride for a week or so. it works great!

Considered this, but I only have to turn the key when I get off. I'm sure it was a little more work to run the cable my way though, and Iad to buy an extension cable and cut it to length. If you only plug it in when it's winter, I doubt it really matters.
