The dyna class bikes handle pretty good, if they don't have the spoke wheels. The spoke wheels seem to flex a little. This is not bad if you are just cruising along. They are not good at high speed curves or any real spirited riding. The dyna that have the other wheel option than the spoke wheels do handle better. I ride with my cousin who own a 08 Fatbob. It has the same wheels as my Vrod.

I think you made a good choice with the dx. If you think it runs strong now wait til you do a stage 1 mod that will really wake up the beast. I have the stage 1 mods with stage 2 cams and it is all I could ever want in a HD. I also have a new sedona orange with black flames dyna wideglide that runs real nice. You really can't go wrong with either bike. I have 1700 on the vrod and about 700 miles on the dyna. I get plenty of compliments on both bikes. The vrod is just my favorite bike.
