The first fill up was 33 mpg, the 2nd was 36 mpg, the 3rd was 39.8 and today was 40.2. I think that it is loosening up and maybe the 40's will be the highest it goes. About 700 miles on it. After breaking it in, I won't be as easy on the twist grip anymore.
The 1K free service that the dealer throws in with a bike is scheduled for next Thursday. even with rain predicted for two days during the coming week, I should have the 1K with ease. It is a dirty job but someone has to do it.
40s will be about as good as it will get... vrods are not ment for gas milage though... they are ment to go and have fun... any thing over 75mph will drop that gas milage pretty quick, and that is when the fun begins for me...
I am up to 3000 miles on my new 2012 Ultra. The MPG is still on a slow climb from the mid 30's, now to the low 40's. I hope that it just keeps on improving.
Got it to 800 miles today and the mpg was right at 40. Just need 200 more by Thursday morning when it goes in for the 1K.
Started twisting the throttle a little more.
The more I look at it the more it seems to resemble the color scheme on Dale Earnhardt's Monte Carlo. Maybe I can get an red # 3 stuck on the side of the fender behind the seat. Or that would be a bit much.
Yes, it does run smoother. But there seems to be some surging in first and second under 3,000 rpm. Might be normal. My Dyna does that also.
It is only when I am going through the local business district 20 mph limit.
Had the 1k service done by the dealer that threw it in with the bike. Mechanic asked if I wanted Dino or Syn for a upcharge. I said that I put syn in at 5K. He went back to do the oil change and came back out and said that V-Rods come with Syn from the factory. The counter person said in that case they would do the 5 qts of syn at no charge.
I can not find any HD literature that states that it comes with syn. The owners manual and the service manual (another nice throw in by the dealer) identifies the four types of oil that can be used.
I would think if it came with syn HD would shout from the roof tops that it does. Just like Corvette's coming with Mobil 1.
Anyway, I got the 5 qts. of syn free. on my other bikes, I do change to syn at the 5K service. They installed a maintainer pig tail while they were at it. I just love freebies.

from what i have heard on the 1130forum there is a mod that can get rid of that. mine does it too but i can't afford the mod. some thing to do with the fuel control or a pc3.
another word of advice is when the bike is going to be setting in the sun for an extended period of time. cover your gage cluster. seals on it can not be replaced and the sun heats it up pretty quick.
