Just brought this fantastic machine home from the dealer. Smooth ride, very powerful, handles well and almost silent (COmpetition Exhaust on order with Fuel Pack). I was aprehensive as a softail owner about getting a NightRod, but after months of research and a few test rides, I bought one. So far, so good!
I just traided my Ultra in on 08 DX. Could not be more happy. It is my daily transportation. They want to replace my left knee, the ultra was getting to be a pain. To my suprize the wife loves it. It only had 2300 miles.
I am at 900 miles and have the 1K scheduled at the dealer this Thursday.
First tank was 33 mpg and progressed to 44 on the last tank. I have been riding it easy per owners manual break in procedure. Also at the start, I did 12 heat cycles to get it road ready.
After the service it will probably never see 44 mpg again.
I have just a bit over 600 miles on my 2012.
This machine is a huge improvement over the earlier versions of NRS, at least in my opinion. I love the new seat, suspension, rear fender and riding position. Bike is quick (for a stock Harley), brakes well, nimble and stable at speed and in cross winds. So far, my longest ride is a 160 RT on Interstate 95. No issues - about 30 mpg.
I have a couple of gripes.
Engine throws massive heat on my right calf when riding slow and I get a lot of grit etc. thrown in my face. Not sure if the "grit" is due to the short front fender. But I'm looking at a cafe fairing and a pipe/power commander to help the bike run less lean and cooler.
I traded my 2010 RK on this motorcycle and don't regret it a bit. The engine is a real marvel.

I just bought mine 2012 night rod with abs. I love the bike. Does it run smooth on low rpms like around 2000? Mine gets shaky on low rpms. The dealership told me that it normal. How is yours?
Dude-Bro Welcome to the V-Rod ownership!......3000 miles on my 2012 in two months and loved every inch of those miles, I had a bit of sorta shaky feel at 2000 rpms in the beginning mileage but not so much any more, however read my laying it down post, don't make my mistake of grabbing those duel Brembo front brakes in a slow turn, cuz if you do your going down.
