Anyone recently buy a 2013 Vrod muscle and the dealer hit them with freight /set up fees?
After negotiating a good deal on a 13 vrod muscle (over 2K under MSRP), dealer came back with $995 for the prep and freight. I got him to reduce it to $850, but I'm reading where some dealers don't charge this. Especially with a recent leftover. What's your take? I do live outside NYC and this is the only dealer within 20 -25 miles. It's almost becoming a monopoly here, but this dealer s under 10 mins from my home and is even on a bus route if I ever need to drop off/pick up and the wifie isn't around.

Remember that V rods are NOT Big Sellers
He should give you a bigger discount n no freight or prep.
Just because you didn't buy from him you can still have the bike serviced there.
try other dealers for you best price
Try Barbs HD in NJ ask for Vince he gave me a smokin deal on my road king

So he's essentially giving you a $2,000 discount and taking back $850 for a net discount of $1150. You should be able to work a better deal. Maryland and Pennsylvania dealers are discounting bikes as well as paying sales tax on 2013's. I'd go back and agree to the deal.....IF THE DEALER PAYS THE SALES TAX.......which offsets the freight/dealer prep he came back at you with.
AC Harley doesnt charge freight & setup. But Barbs, HD 40 miles down the road, does. The dealerships will change the numbers on the front end to ballance the back end. It's their game and unfortunatley we have to play it. Best thing to do is to bide your time. If you want to save money, pay cash if you can. If you can't, finance through a credit union. Make the dealer negotiate for the loan. Don't buy a bike in spring, fall or before Christmas. Buy in February if you can.
I know, you might not be able to get exactly what your looking for at that time but then again you might find something better. Patience FTW!!
Well, I did it after a sleepless night. I'm sure I could have gotten a better deal elsewhere, but this dealer is only 5 minutes away (Empire HD) and I've heard only good things since they've taken over for New Roc. Final price was $16385.40 OTD (7.375 tax) for the 2 Metallic Black/Silver 2013 Muscle (6/13 build date), no abs/security, V&H competition slip-ons and HD mapping download.
Pipes need to come in, so I'm not going to pick it up until the installs are done. End of the week!! I was also sold on only this color combo and that was the last one left in stock. Spoke to a few guys at the dealer and they all said the Muscle is the best selling Vrod and their 4th best selling bike (not sure about that one). They did all agree it sells more in urban areas than rural. I have no plans on 500 mile trips with this bike! I'll wait until I'm older and buy a Road King for that.

Whats that HD mapping DL for? Did you buy a stage 1? I don't know all that much about vrod's but with my 13 FXDF adding slipon's didn't require any ECM updates. Is the vrod that different or did they throw in a high flow air cleaner too?
Either way, by my calculations you paid less than retail and thats always a good thing. Good luck with your new bike!
The bottom line on any deal is are YOU happy with the bike an price. Waiting 3 or 4 months may save you few hundred bucks but you miss out on the end of the riding season an won't be able to enjoy it until spring.
