Hi folks! Recent member and proud owner of an 2001 Dyna FXDL converted into a wide glide and a 2005 thunder mountain Blackhawk 240. That said, I am in the market for jack stands for my bikes and I thought of reaching out to my riding brothers and sisters for help in choosing a good one. I heard J&S were good; however, boy are they pricey. Thank you all for you assistance. edubb68
Welcome. Why jack stands for winter storage?? Keep both my bikes in unheated garage in Wisconsin all winter. Never had a need to raise them up for that.
Rolling stands or jacks make it a lot easier to move bikes around in the garage if/when the need arises. I always tie them down to the jack, though, a bike can be tipped off any kind of jack if you bump it right; kids are expert at that...
I have an old Laren jack, way too wiggly for a Harley. Even my 300lb scooter looks like it's on rubber legs on that thing. Have a yellow HF jack, just get the wheels off the ground and it feels solid. Sure don't like the new black HF jacks, though, one in the store had nasty looking welds, wouldn't trust it. Lot of them out there do fine, but try to get one that has a screw release; some of those step lever releases just have fast and faster speeds, gotta be real careful with them. Also check the safety stop mechanism; some of them sure look flimsy - I'd never leave a bike "on the bottle" for any length of time. There's an aluminum jack that Sears and Harbor Freight sell that gets good reviews. I also have an HF hi-lift bike jack, but it doesn't have wheels; real solid, but it's not moving with a bike on it.
