Hello from the San Diego Mountains, First off would like to say thank you, finally broke away from evo's and shovel heads in oct 2013 in the form of an 06 injected wide glide and the info on your forum has stopped me from setting the thing on fire in the driveway more than once. Second would like to apologize in advance if I post things in wrong area or such, first time joining a forum so I might need guidance from time to time. I am a 42 year old disabled heavy equipment mechanic/welder with 20 years riding experience, 15 years of those being on HD. I am a 20 month survivor of a rare spinal cord cancer where I was told I would never be able to walk again much less ride or play with my kids, told the docs that was not an acceptable option and well here I am doing both. I am now riding an 06 wide glide, had to change the bars to a drag bar on a 6 inch riser to accommodate my newly dissected back and add a fork bar for the folding cane necessary to walk more than very short distances. I have only put about 3000 miles on her since picking her up due to having to relearn to do a lot of things, have my good days and my bad. Now my reason for joining to pick your brains, if you could guide me where to post, shot up to Palm Desert with my brother over weekend, coming out we hit a 70mph head wind. I did not have the strength to hold onto the bike on the freeway, my brother where great about it and all got on there phones and tracked out a route over frontage roads so I could limp it out of the wind. While they where understanding and very supportive I am now looking for a solution while still building my body strength up such as a batwing? I have never ran a fairing and never cared for windshields in crosswinds need input on weather this might help, crosswinds on a batwing, shield height, buffering, would one even work with my bar set up, all the detailed good stuff. Anyway thanks again and look forward to the input.
