My '12 Softail Slim got dropped off Friday morning and it was a nice enough day that I got to put a couple hours of saddle time in before the rain and cold moved back in. I can't remember the last time I smiled so much. Previous owner only logged 5,760 miles on her. That will be eclipsed this riding season. I'm planning on getting pipes put on this summer. Not sure what yet.
This is my first Harley. I grew up in West Virginia riding dirt bikes (all the kids in my family started out on a '77 Honda Z50). After not riding for a long time, I decided to go the street bike route when I moved to the Pittsburgh area after college. I've been riding an '08 V-Star 650 custom for the last few years. Kind of figured I'd just move up to a bigger metric bike since everyone was pretty discouraging with the troubles Harley's will give you.
A couple of summers ago, my buddy's step-dad let me tool around on his Fat Bob while we were in Knoxville. I really didn't want to give him back his key fob after that. And...it sucked getting back on the Yamaha. Funny thing about all those people telling me not to spend the money on a Harley - Not one of them had ever owned one.
The V-star now going to be relegated to teaching a friend of mine how to ride. And, if he gets the bug - I'm sure as hell going to encourage him to definitely put the money down on a Harley.
