Hi from MD
Here's my tale to how I got here...
Been riding for 20 years, had many different bikes and styles over the years (started w/cruiser, but moved onto a variety of sportbikes, enduro, supermoto, Adventure, and ujm standard/cafe over the years)
Never owned a HD till now... Never had anything against em, just most of my riding wasn't cruiser orientated... Well till now... About a year ago I parted with a bunch of bikes, wasn't riding em much as i have a first grader and one just coming outta diapers.. So, its a lot of daddy duty.. To replace em, I bought a 2013 cb1100 which I love..however, like most things I can't leave well enough alone set it up a bit more of a specific corner carver than a man about town bike..
Enter my Evil co-worker.. Who asks me if I'd be interested in his HD.. I was initially cautious as my budget for a man about town bike was waaaaaaay limited (kids ate into my fun budget) in addition to my CB... Co-worker says he dropped it while at a light, had it fixed by a dealer a year previously, but he hadn't ridden it in over a year. He was older and his wife was after him to hang it up... Tells me it'll be a pain to have to rent a trailer take it to the dealer and deal with it all.. So I know jack about hd's, but since it been maintained by a dealer with all OEM stuff, even with it being 12 years old (2003) it only had 15k miles.. It might just be an easy dump of fluids, plus plugs and wires.
So the wheels start turning.. I can tell he wants it gone, I hadnt ridden a HD, ever , let alone a dyna.. So I listen to that lizard part of my brain and go look at it, cuz I'm wired that way. So I look at this thing and it's pretty and doesn't look anywhere near its age.. So right away I'm figuring it's price is going to go over what I have. Not to mention that with minimal toying, it starts right up. So while I know jack about HDs I do know how to work a smartphone and check both trade in and retail values on kbb... I take a deep breathe, and go, what's he want for it.. Apparently he had some a anniversary present picked out for his wife, and he wanted that in cash... I think I asked him how sure he was a few times then, plus a few more when I hauled it away.. Not knowing anything about HDs doesn't mean I can't see a bargain when I see it and it came with a bunch of goodies like new tires, VH pipes, Mustang seat, as well as the orig stuff
I figured at the very least, I could flip it and make some quick $.. However, I rode it. It's big(ish) loud and shakes worse than my ktm 620.. However, it was kinda fun to ride.. I wanted something to tool around on to go from place to place, not blast. I just got a smoking deal that'll never happen again.. So what the hell....
The fuilds were drained, carb cleaned, and it runs like a top.. Only thing is I think I'll swap forwards for mids, not used to the forwards, and will put a lower bar.. That's it.. It'll probably the least modified bike I have owned...
So hi.....
I'm sure I will be asking questions along the way...
