I just bought a 2006 Peace Officer Special Edition Ultra Classic, at an auction Sunday. I haven't ridden it yet, because I had surgery nearly two weeks ago, and am on doctor's orders (no lifting, pushing, pulling and most especially, no motorcycling.) So, I had my mechanic pick it up in his trailer yesterday. It needs a new rear tire, and a few more fix-its, but mechanically seems extremely sound. I can't wait to get it on the road.
I've been riding off and on since 1991. Owned just about every type of bike, and ridden many more. This is my first dresser, but I've ridden a triked Ultra, an Indian Chieftain, a Victory Cross Country, a Yamaha Voyager, and a Goldwing. I'm ok with a big bike and I have amazing friends. Prior to this, I had an '05 XL1200c that was sold with nearly 70,000 miles on it.
This summer, I'm planning a benefit ride to the four corners of the U.S. The main mission is to advocate against the sex trafficking and exploitation of minors. All proceeds after the trip will be given to Door to Grace, a group who helps victims of trafficking, get out of it, and back to normalcy.
I thought I was going to use my daughter's 650 V-Strom for the trip. I am so relieved that I have a real tour bike for this, instead. Plus, I really LOVE the rumble of a big American v-twin. Her bike would need a lot of modifications just to fit me, and I can hardly hear it. I often refer to it as the sewing machine.
I'll post more info about the trip in an appropriate place. If you are anywhere close to the route and want to jump in for a bit, or offer suggestions of places to see or avoid, feel free to let me know. Donations can be sent to Freedom Ride 2016 on GoFundMe, which is directly linked to an account at Hucrest Church of God in Roseburg, OR. (Not my pocket)
I can't wait to ride it!
