Hello guys and girls! Long story short I bought my bike brand new from Chandler Harley in July of 2013. This bike is my only vehicle and I've put 60k miles on it. Long story short I had a lot of problems with my first motor. I had an extended warranty and the dealer ended up replacing my entire motor at 58k miles. I just got done breaking in the new motor and am glad to have it back on the road! Hoping to hit 100k and more.
Well the bike started burning a lot of oil around 30k miles. They first reconditioned the top end/heads at 33k. Then the bike was ok for about 10k miles and then at 46k they replaced the pistons and rings because it was burning a lot of oil again. Then at 58k the bike was burning a Qt of oil about every 500 miles and it was running very poorly. I'm not sure of the exact reason but they told me that a lifter was bad, the cylinder heads were out of spec, the cylinders were out of spec, there was play in the connecting rods, side to side play in the pushrods and the fly wheel was out of spec. At the same time the rectifier went out and that caused a short in the fuel pump as well. So what cause what I'm not sure but I think it was a few things that all played against eachother.
So they ended up ordering a brand new engine assembly from the factory for $4800. So now I have a 2013 Iron with essentially 2k miles on it! I no longer have a warranty since they won't pay for anymore but I'm confident this motor will not give me any problems.
I have kept all of my receipts and very meticulous maintenance records since day 1 though. This motor already feels so much stronger and I'm still taking it easy on it.
