Greetings. I ran across a HD today that I am going to buy. Never owned a Harley, and have decided I will try one now as a retirement present. Not sure if this a good buy or not, but taking him the money tomorrow. It is a 96 Fat Boy. 1 owner, 23K miles, and been sitting for 3 years. Owner is 78 year old renown street rod builder in my area. Known him for years, and he has been building rods since he was 15. Reputable honest guy. His health is forcing him to sell all his cars etc. He said $5000 is his bottom dollar. He bought this bike new and did a few mods. Custom stainless exhaust, 40 Ford tail light, custom paint. Before he bought the bike from dealer he had them lower it 1 1/2", and had them ship the wheels to some place and get them polished to smooth finish, etc. etc. Stock engine etc. He did the custom painting, and I am a sucker for pearl / candy orange. Only thing I saw was it needs new rear tire (actually will do the front also since it is old). Bike had not been started in 3 years. He put the battery on charger before I got there, and didn't even put in fresh gas (1/2 tank old gas smelled a little bad, but he said he had faith it would start. To OUR surprise it fired up. I took it for a little spin and said -- SOLD! Do you think this is a fair price? So it looks like I am going to be a new Harley owner. Looking forward meeting all you on here.
Welcome aboard.......good luck on the bike........what ever anyone says......its up to YOU to figure out what a good buy it is........the way you talk about it....it's already yours.......so good luck!
Yes change the tires.......fluids, including that gas........make sure everything is tight.......ride on into the sunset
