I'm 53 and ride every chance I get, which is a lot in Sacramento CA. I have a stock 2003 FXSTBi Nightrain with 30k.
It has a Stage 1 Kit EFI (air filter/breather) and Python 3's Exhaust. I didn't recalibrate it and it ran just fine. I treat it nice, but I do "get it on" occasionally. I have only hit the rev limiter once,OK maybe twice,(long ago) by accident (didn't know it was there.)
Since I had the extended warranty and was having surgery, I decided to take the Train in and let the dealer do the cam follower repair. Good thing, as after teardown, they found the crank was moving and causing noticeable wear. About $2200 repair for
a $50 deductible.(Darn warranty was worth it.)
What I would like to know is just a few opinions about upgrades while its apart. I initiated the conversation with the dealership and it quickly escalatedto a '95 kit (barrels and pistons, etc) My out of pocket would be $700. But I know a little about engines and I think this is just a quick buck or two for the dealer. Yeah, it might be a little faster. But, what I would like to know is, if whatI want todo seems more logical.
1) Port (In&Ex) & Polish (Ex) heads
&upgrade valves and springs
2) Upgrade Cams to S&S 510g kit
3) Asjustable pushrods & roller rockers
4) Dial it in
Since the engine is going to be completely apart, I pay only parts and (machine shop work) and I spend about the same amout
but get a whole lot more bang for the buck. I would be willing to bet it will blow the wheels off any TC95.(based on the amt of
a/f the engine will move. ANYBODY care to comment?
And Thanks to all

PS I know all this will void the warranty, but its up in 18 months anyway!
I would be glad to give an opinion. I did the 95" kit on my 06 Delux. (78 HP 88 Torque) Put 300 miles on the 88" and then went on vacation. When I got back from vacation it was a 95 incher. Well it surly blew the stripes off of the road compaired to the 88". I have been investigating the option of getting a set of ported heads to go with the 95" kit and what I have found out is that the compression ratio must be matched to the cam. You can not just throw a few things into an engine and have 100 HP. So if you know a good shop that will do a special build then have them do that. If it is the harley dealer that will put this together for you then in my opinion just do the 95" kit and do the heads and proper cams next year and you can be up to 100 HP when you are done. You will surly enjoy the 95" engine!
