New Harley Owner Help Please?
I just bought a '04 Sportster 1200 with only 480 miles on it from a very good friend. What do I need to have done to be sure everything is in order. I am about to start putting miles on this beauty and want to be sure I don't need to change the oil and filter....anything else before I really break the bike in. thanks for the help.

those are the answers i wanted. us poor school teacher can't afford alot of maintenance, but i did want to take care of it. when should i go in for the first maintenance check up? and what should i have done. i am coming over from a 74 kawasaki z1 900 where i was rebiulding it, so this is quite an upgrade. by the way, if you know anyone who wants it let me know. fast bike, but i couldn't pass up on this deal at all. love the new bike. going on first big trip tomorrow. 300 mile round trip can't wait.

Welcome from Maryland. Get ahold of an owners manual and it will give you a schedule of maintance and intervals. Good advise above...check the oil and ride the hell out of it.

Welcome, sounds like it has been sitting, i would change the oil and filter and go over everything, check all fasteners, lube the cables etc.
