California Newbie
I am a 43 year-old guy that hasn't ridden a motorcycle for 20 years. A few weeks ago, I heard about this great new trike, the Can Am Spyder, that Bombardier is releasing later this year. It's a really high-tech deal, with a 990cc Rotax V-Twin.
The local motorcycle center had a couple that BRP are sending around for demos, and, since California doesn't require a motorcycle license for trikes, I took a 1-hour test drive. Although I managed to stall it out at the first couple of stops, qnd white-knuckled for a bit, I was soon zipping all over the place on it.
It was great, and I thought I just had to have one. Unfortunately, they cost $15k, and apparently BRP has already sold out their entire first year's production.
But being on a bike again felt so good, I knew I had to have one. And with gas prices going up, up, up, my commute, which is 30 miles one way, is starting to get expensive in my Ram 2500.
So, I went straight to the harley dealer and told them to put together an XL 1200C. Even with all the extras I ordered, it's still 1/3 less than the Spyder, and more comfortable besides. My sig pic is pretty much the bike I ordered, except the pic doesn't show the engine guards.
I went to the DMV and took the written tests to get my temp M1 permit this week, and I registered for the MFC course on 29 June, which will take the place of the skills test. I finish the course on 1 July. So, on 2 July, I'm taking the day off work, getting my permanent M1 license as soon as the office opens at 8, and then I'm going to San Diego Harley to pick up my bike immediately after that.
So, On 2 July, I will be a Harley owner. And the gas savings will almost completely cover the payments on the bike!
This next week is gonna go reallllllly slow, though.

My buddy is going through the same issue you are. He has three weeks to stall till he is able to get his bike.
Works well for me he has come over and washed mine just to have a bike to mess with.
