Hey guys, new member here. Been riding about 15 years and always wanted a Harley, picked up a 2018 Road King Special a few weeks ago. Loving it! I live in Austin and have been burning up the Texas Hill Country every chance I get. So far I've added Harley saddlebag guards and have a dark tinted Freedom Shield hopefully arriving today. I want to put on pipes next.
Some newb questions about pipes: I think I want a Stage I, and I'm leaning towards the Vance & Hines Power Duals. I know I'll also need a new air cleaner and tuning or a tuner, but what about slip on's? That's my big newb question: do I need slip on's to go with the Power Duals? I called V&H and the rep said the Power Duals are a full system and I won't need slip on's, but every post or video I've seen about headers mentions slip on's as well. Are they required or advised? If I don't get slip on's, would I be using my stock exhaust with the new headers, and if so, that would probably suck, right?

Welcome to the Harley club and to the forums from Amarillo. We have a group coming down to ride the 3 sisters in May and can't wait. As far as pipes and slip-ons that all personal preference. Do you want loud or performance? I've been riding for almost 40 years and I am tired of loud, but that's just me. But in answer to your question, yes, stock mufflers will suck in my opinion. Have fun and use the forums.
