Newb from so cal
HI not new to motorcycling , just new to the HD Forum. I am 72 years young. Bought my first motorcycle in 1969 a shiny new red 750 honda.Of the 15 bikes i have owned 5 were HDs.I also have a soft spot for naked street fighter sport bikes. Just sold my honda 919 sit up sport bike and bought a 2014 883 Iron with less than 2,000 miles on it. came with top shelf goodies. nothing to do but clean the dust it accumulated sitting in a garage. What a hoot to ride home tonight. has V&H short shots,screaming Eagle air filter ,V&H fuel pac 3 re map,custom leather solo seat, extended controls. Pretty stiff ride but this is my 3 rd sporty so i knew what i was getting into. I am very lucky at my age to enjoy riding any motorcycle not alone a harsh ride bike like a sporty iron.I felt 20 years younger tonight. This bike fits my need for a no nonsense basic bar hopper type bike. I rarely ride more than 30 miles away. No need for a big twin. I did own a 2005 soft tail Deuce and a pro street chopper with a S&S 113 in another life.

I tell a lot of new comers to the forum to get: Factory Service manual and the Parts manual. Get a three ring binder and record all your maintenance, repairs, accessories, etc. This will be a great reminder of what was done when. And great material to pass along to the new owner should you sell and upgrade. Also know how large your fuel tank is, and record your fuel usage. I have an app called Simply Auto that I record all my fuel used. I use the odometer and use the fuel gage as reference only. I reset the odometer to zero on fill ups, and I know I can safely get 200 miles on a tank on around town riding.
