Welcome to the forum, I also grew up on dirt bikes (in Alaska) then moved to street bikes when I moved to Oregon. Forward controls take a while to get used to if you've never ridden with them but if you don't want to spend the money on moving to mid controls try mini floorboards, I put them on my Sport Glide and it makes forward controls tolerable and comfortable for me.
