Dirty Fat Boy with throttle position sensor issue
I have an 04 fat boy that I ride the crap out of. I was having issues with the throttle position sensor so I replaced it. Problem is bike is still running the same. Trying to die on me at very inconvenient times.
to be honest she has been living out doors for the last 6 years covered by a tarp during winter. So you could say the electronics under my seat are slightly filthy? I tried cleanig up the connections but, it didn't help. Seems I need to clean the whole thing. So help? Is there something I can spray on there to get the grime off? I already tried blowing it off with a compresser. Ideas?
Briefly since this is welcome area. Post your question over in tec section using drop down menu. Maybe here

I assume it's FI. Assume that, clean around butterfly and butterfly itself with a cotton cloth and throttle body spray. There is a preset factory set stop for some of the idle air there.
Nothing is safe to just spray, it will wash crud into IAC vale motor or temperature sensor and IAC will hang or temp sensor will cause starting difficulties. With Air filter off, key on and off to make sure the V pintol valve jumps in and back out of the Idle air passage around butterfly.
Be sure plugs are clean and wires are good.
If all is good, it actually that old could be the IAC or the CPS. Seen both cause that.
Idle is lean and everything has to be good even with the 1000 rpm idle to maintain a reliable idle.

I tell a lot of new comers to the forum to get: Factory Service manual and the Parts manual. Take to an office supply store and have them put a spiral binder in place of the glued binder. That will let the manuals lay flat on your bench. Get a three ring binder and record all your maintenance, repairs, accessories, etc. This will be a great reminder of what was done when. And great material to pass along to the new owner should you sell and upgrade. Also know how large your fuel tank is, a rough idea of your range per tank, and record your fuel usage. I have an app called Simply Auto that I record all my fuel used. I use the odometer and use the fuel gage as reference only. I reset the odometer to zero on fill ups, and I know I can safely get 200 miles on a tank on around town riding, and upwards of 230+ on trips.
