First HD project
New to the HD world. Just picked up my first HD project bike. 68 Electra Glide.
Hoping this forum is a good as some of the others I have joined. (Vintage BMW and Goldwing forums). I found them to be very helpful and sometimes entertaining.
Can't wait to dig into this one and get this beautiful bike back on the road where it belongs.
I'm a long time amateur wrench turner with a decent shop so even though I have no experience with HDs I am optimistic I can handle this project.
All my 2-wheel experience is with boxer motors and drive shafts. Basically car drive trains on bikes. Everything I've worked on spins sideways. Never worked on anything that spins same direction as the wheels.
Ill start a new thread in the proper forum to track my progress, post questions and pics as I go. This bike is a beauty and I got it from a friend who has owned and ridden it since 1998. It is all there but needs some re-assembly - including tappets, push rods, primary and clutch, compensating thingy, oil tank, carb, exhaust, starter motor, etc.. I'll try to post a few pics.
Looking forward to getting to know some of you.
Newbe here. Just picked up a 68 shovel head (Electra-Glide) as a project. First HD. Can't wait to dig in and see what these bikes are all about.
Hoping for some sage advice and possibly entertainment on this forum.
Got a learning curve ahead of me. All my 2-wheel wrenching experience in on BMWs and Honda Goldwing. All of them have boxer motors and shaft drive. This is very different!
I hope you continue to enjoy your ride here, as much as you enjoy your bike.
