Hello to all. I'm about to return to HD (FLTHI) after 5 years, and 120,000 miles on a Yamaha Roadstar. I previously owned a 99 Wide Glide that I sold w/ 75k miles on it. Back then I wasn't sure how long the HD would last.Mind you I had no problems except a bad cam bearing which HD replaced. I will be keeping the Road* as a backup!

My wife and I do major road trips during the summers as we both have the time off being teachers. Our longest ride was two years ago when we rode from home (Palm Springs area) up to Calgary, thru Banff, across Canada to Vancouver and home going down the Pacific coast. We pulled a trailer on this trip to avoid having to wait until local post offices opened so my bride could mail goodies to the grandkids (this delayed staring off until 9 am!).

Why return to to HD. Well, I took my buddy's Ultra out for a spin and marveled at the ease with which it pulled off the kickstand, and its really sensitive steering response. Also, I'd like to do better than my Road* mpg (35-40).
That's about it for now.
Larry

Welcome to the forum and back to HD. I just traded for an 06 ultra and love it. Had ridden a RK custom for a couple of years, before that a Kaw Nomad, before that an HD Super Glide. In other words, I can relate.

I envy the long rides your able to take yearly. Maybe I'll see ya down the pike....

Right on Larry, that Canadian ride is GORGIOUS!! I would love to take that trip on bike with the ol'man! I did a trip out from here, with my dad and kids (sweetie had to work), to Spokan. We took the Cassiar then over to Jasper, south through Banff, into northern Montana (we were aiming for N. Idaho),then on to Spokan> Great trip, although we were in our cars, it was still awsome
Stick around here, you'll get great idea's for new rides all the time!and how to have a great time gettin there!
