I have a 2008 HD Sportster 1200XLC Lehman Trike. The bike came with 15 inch rear tires and wheels. The smaller OEM tire causes the speedometer to show a faster then actual speed. This causes two problems. First it's eating up my warranty. Second it's a pain in the butt. Lehman tells me there is a "Speedo Healer" fix out there and directs me to the web site, the cost is $250.00. Now to get the Speedo Healer installed at a HD service that's another $95.00/hr that takes about four hours. So to get this done I'm looking at about $ 630.00 plus tax.
Now, my real question here is can I take that $ and replace the rear 15 inch tires and wheels with a set of say, 16 inch and make the speedometer correction that way? Cuz, the rear tire on a Sportster is on a 16 wheel.
There appears to be lots of room in the wheel welds to go to a larger size. What do ya think?
