Just an introduction
Heres a pic of it- http://www.fidnet.com/~kesler/k_harley1.jpg
Not pictured is a new gel-filled seat from mustang, a new S&S super E carb, and a new set of handlebars.
Hope to be a long term member here. Iv'e had this thing for 2 years now, and I know I'll need some help when I start working on it. Just today I went out to take a ride, fired it up, and while it was at idle warming up...BANG! The loudest noise I've heard ever come out of a motor. Now I can spin my inner primary freely. I'm assuming it's total rebuild time, and at a mere 44368 miles. Iv'e never been that deep in this engine before, but I know the front-inner primary sprocket is connected to the crank, so if I can freely turn this, something serious let loose, since the pistons are not moving...it's a sad day for me.
I really have grown attached to this bike, but is it worth a total rebuild? I've had my eye on the newer sportsters, but they all seem to lack the class my old baby has. ( ironhead ) I don't mind turning wrenches on this thing, as I've been doing so for the last 2 years...I think it's why I'm so attached to it.
Opinions please,
Kurt.

I'm sorry to hear about your engine. It's hard to say weather or not it's worth rebuilding. I guess you'll have to weigh how much you think you can get for the bike with a blown engine vs what it would cost to rebuild/replace the engine vs how much it will cost to get into a new Sportster...
Good luck,
Ryan
Obviously that's easy for me to say but either way it's worth it.
Just diagnose it and shop for whay you need.
Good luck!
