Welcome to the forums, I still get excited everyday about my HD. I've owned a lot of bikes and have been riding anything with 2 wheels since I was eight years old. Riding is a rush and you'll love it, especially on an HD I do probably double the mileage I used to do on my jap bikes. As far as safety goes you need to just keep in mind that you want to be more alert then the folks in cages we have to share the roads with.
