Welcome from Pa! #1 for the riders safety course. Then rent a couple of different models to see what you like.

Welcome aboard! I would go with the Heritage. Once you get some riding under your belt, step up to a more comfortable ride such as a street glide or Ultra Classic. You chose a very good forum for information. Everyone is very helpful. I would take a rider's course and you also might want to get the dvd, How to Ride Like a Pro. I've got tons of miles under my belt from over the years, but this was still very helpful. Just FYI. Good Luck!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and advice! I've ridden several years ago, but on a much smaller (250cc Virago) bike. I was planning on hitting the rider's safety course, and a friend of mine has a larger bike he's willing to let me get my balance on. Is the How to Ride Like a Pro DVD a HD product or where can I find it?

Added perks include chrome and other goodies that the original owner has paid.

If you can, pick up an older metric bike in the 600cc range just for practice until you get some experience. You can turn around and sell it when you are ready for a Heritage. Its a big step to go directly to a Heritage. It can be done, but carefully and without the wife on the back until you are ready.
I agree with Dorkman. (BTW Dorkman, awesome avitar! ) The Heritage is a great bike. I have a Road King because it suits my needs better. I started out wanting a Fatboy, then Softail Custom, then Heritage, decided on a Road King. Think about what you want to do with the bike. Almost any bike 600cc and up will be sufficient for the work commute but if you want to ride 2 up for 600 miles on a weekend, you'll want a little more bike. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Just Google "Ride Like a Pro." You'll find it. It has some good info IMHO.
