Default First Bike Selection

I'm a total noob anf I'm sure this question has been asked so please bear with me.

I'm currently looking for my first bike and have pretty much decided on either a used Heritage Deluxe or a Road King.

My question is about model or year specific issues to know about. Are certain years and/or models that are problematic?

Of course I want to get as much for my money as possible but I know that newer is not always better.

Thanks...

Welcome from Vancouver Island. Between the two the Road thing I like better. Personal choice though.
