Default Hello from socal!

Hey everyone! My name is brent, and I'm from Encino. A little over a year ago, I was living in santa monica and working in venice, so I had no reason to have a car. I just road my bike, or took the bus to and from work. Then My wife and I had a baby, much to my amazement, my wife said, you should get a motorcycle! I was shocked, most people, when they are about to have a baby, get the opposite reaction from their wives ( time to sell the motorcycle!). But she wanted me to be able to get back home quickly, and it was much cheaper than getting a car.

So I took my MSF class and bought a 2001 honda shadow vlx600. Was a great bike to learn on and worked fine for going back and forth from work. But with the PCH right there, and all those canyon roads in the santa monicas just calling me, how could I not go for fun rides? I'm a big guy, 6'1 and 240lbs, so very quickly, the bike showed that it wasn't going to last very long.

Well, about a month ago, I moved to Encino, on the other side of the santa monicas from work, I had a much longer commute that could involve the 405. So, after riding home from work on friday, my wife and I discussed the need for a bigger bike.

So yesterday, I showed up at the van nuys harley dealer, intent on the nightster. They had one and I zeroed in on it. Talked to the sales guy, and he told me straight up, The nightster is an awsome bike, but You will probablly think its too small after a short period. He said, take it for a test ride, and when you get back, I'll have another bike waiting for you, it is a bit more expensive, but just ride it after the nightster and we'll talk afterwards.

Rode the nightster. suuuppper fun bike! It was so fast and nimble. But it was very cramped for me, even if I put forward controls on it, I knew that It would be a great play bike, but commuting 35 miles a day, would get old.

So when I got back to the dealer, he had a 09 superglide waiting for me. I took it for a ride, and immediately, I knew it was a better fit for me. It felt just as fast ( I was coming from a 600cc honda, so anything would be), but just felt so much more comfortable.

So I did it, And I couldn't be happier! I should have added forward controls right away, but I decided to wait. O well. I'll probably put them on soon.

Sorry for the bad iphone pics, better pics soon.
