Hi Chris,

First, welcome to the forum from Colorado! Second, you'll find a lot of advice around here and the best will tell you to rent two or three to figure out what will work for you. My last piece of advice is to sign up for a rider's course. That may be the best money you can invest in yourself before you buy a bike.
