First night on a Harley. Got a call from Washington HD on December 8, 2002 that my bike was ready to be picked up. Next day a snow storm was due and wanted the bike in my garage when it happened. So after work I went to pick it up. Got out of there around 9 PM and the temp had dropped to about 20 deg (I tell everyone 8 degrees - but it is all the same). The trip home was 60 miles all back roads. I stopped at every 7-11, gas station, Wawa and was ready to knock at people's houses just to get a cup of coffee. I didn't drink much coffee that night, just held the hot cup in my hands. Wasn't really prepared for cold riding.

I made it home around 3 AM. PROUD AND COLD.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
great story man, I can't wait till my first ride on my own bike.

welcome from Pilot Point texas.I owned a 2007 1200 low sportster for about a year.great bike for one up riding. They have really crummy rear shocks.I wouldnt go with an 883 if it was me.You will outgrow that quick. Not enough power for long rides in my opinion. The 2004 or later sportsters are rubbermounts.Much improvement over the older ones.A big twin has much better feel on the open highway, but any sportster 1200 will outrun it.VROD? I am not a air cooled harley purist, so for me, if I was 25 years old, the vrod would be the bike.Engine designed by porsche, water cooled, scary fast. That is one problem, too much bike for a new rider.Hard to go wrong with a dyna lowrider.Big twin motor, easy to accesorize, plenty of power, power upgrades like stage 1 is easy to do.Good luck, keep us posted.

thanks for the advice man, yeah I guess a VROD would be a lot of power for a newbie like me. I'll just have to demo different bikes and see. I'm in the process of looking at gear, so that I can go and take the courses. Don't know if I should go with open face helmet or not. EDIT: or half or full face.
