Tough Choice
You've already had some great advice, particularly regarding the fact that the RK would look butt ugly with the bags removed. If you can wait until you return Stateside, why not try a test ride on both or even better hire each for a days riding. Hiring would give you the opportunity to try out both cruising around the area where you live, including riding in town and also doing a longer distance trip with a couple of hours or more in the saddle. That should give you a better idea of the differences between the two, which you prefer and whether, if you found the RK more comfortable, you could live with it with the bags on all the time.
I have a Sportster but find I rarely remove the saddle bags for riding, even though it can be done in seconds, because they so often come in handy. Even today at work I ended up picking up a few items at lunch time that might have been difficult to transport home if the bags hadnt been on. So removal might not prove such an issue, but only you can tell.
Good luck and stay safe.
