Welcome from Virginia! My 07 EG has never ever failed me on a road trip.
It is only when it goes in for service that the dealer finds problems...
It is your ride and you are the only one who has to be pleased.
So turn the ignition on and push that little button on the right handlebar and ride off into the sunset!

Welcome from NJ. Any bike can break down and any rider should be prepared for it happening so that argument means nothing.
You certainly could've bought a GW if you wanted it and you would've had one of the best touring bikes. But for whatever reason you wanted a Harley. The RG also has a great reputation as a tourer. I suspect your biggest complaint will how hot it runs.
