Helmet Preference
After a 3 decade layoff from riding, I rewarded my retirement with a Harley! I needed a helmet to ride home from the dealer, but he did not have one that fit me comfortably. I bought the cheapest one just to ride home (I figured a spare is not a bad thing). Now, I am looking for advice on the type of helmet people like best. The one I have now is a 1/2 helmet. Thanks for any info!

Oh man, I'm not sure you will have time to read all the opinions offered. I have four helmets: a 3/4 with face shield (good for really cool days); a 3/4 open face with a large visor (good for bright sunlight and warm days): a 1/2 with a small visor and pop down tinted half face shield; and a cheap 1/2 helment with large visor (good for hot days and bright sun).
Helmets are about as personal as shoes.

But to your question: understand that there are zillions of people on here and everybody thinks their style and brand of helmet is best, so after all is said and done you're probably going to end up shopping around for the one that works best for you. Also, feel free to use the "search" button above to find hundreds of other postings about helmets. You'll find valuable information. Around here, the only dumb question is one that's been asked dozens of times before.
One piece of advice that I'll pass along--helmet sizes vary with the manufacturer. You might wear a medium in one brand and an XL in another brand, so if you order online or mail order, try to find someone who sells it locally and try it on first. If you order one and have to send it back, the shipping/restocking fees will eat up any savings you might have realized, not to mention the wasted time.
Oh, and one more thing. If you find a HD brand helmet you like, shop around a little because they buy their helmets from other companies and put their name on them. You might find the exact same helmet--but with the manufacturers sticker instead of HD's--for considerably less money.

I have paid out a lot of money on all sorts of helmets over the years & can tell you I have never been happier with the AFX 42A. Its a 3/4 with drop down shield has a fighter pilot look to it. VERY light, shield is very clear. For a full face I have a Gmax that is great too.
Sharknose is right... if you look at the H-D website they actully tell you who makes the helmet, when you see the mark up you will laugh.

Btw I ride normally with my windscreen on for highway & off for in town that will make a big difference in your helmet choice.

Questions like (What’s the best ?), or (Having trouble with,?), has been answered 100’s of times.
The search feature will get U a lot of answers, or a Google search.
If you can’t find the answer, start a thread In the CORRECT Section,. Then go from there.
At least U tried….
