Smile Hello Everyone

Hi,

I am considering purchasing a Harley-Davidson and found this forum while trying to see what experiences others have had with their HDs. I ride a sportbike now but would like to add a cruiser, preferably American made (also considering Victory). I want the cruiser as a comfortable change of pace and want to occasionally make long haul, several states, and cross-country type trips.

I am most interested in the Softail Custom at the moment. I like the look, the seat seems comfortable for a passenger, and the bike fits me very well. I don't think I want a full time touring bike and it seems I could add bags to the FXSTC for the long trips if needed.

This looks like a great forum. I would appreciate any advice or insights.

Thank you.

Hey Koth,
Welcome from North Carolina!!!!!!!!! The Softail Custom is a great bike. I would suggest renting one if you can. Not sure if they rentin your area, but evern though expensive, its well worth the money before making your decision. Unless of course you have a friend with one. I used to ride a GSXR for years. I am addicted to Harley Now. Is a whole different experiece. I get more enjoyment myself out of the nostalgia, events and just kicking back and enjoying the scenery and smells of the open road vs. the days of doing indos, and wheelies.

Hello and Welcome to the forum from sunny Southern California. I agree with genesismotorcycles in that if you can rent or borrow a bike so that you can do some real riding before you actually buy the bike that you think that you want, it might help save you some money in the long run. You can look up on the Harley web site where the next DEMO DAYS are going to be held so that you can get a chance to ride a few different types of Harleys before you go out and buy one. A group of friends and I went an about a 4,000 miles round trip to Sturgis and back and two of them rode on Softails and with some bags and stuff, you could easily ride those things anywhere you want to go so they should do what you are thinking about doing with them. I hope that you get the bike that you want. Good luck and ride safe out there!
