Hey all -- don't beat me up too bad. It took me 21 years to convince my wife I wouldn't kill myself on a bike and she finally gave in and we bought one. I've always been into muscle cars and ATVs, but never could convince her to get a bike. So, as soon as I saw a weakness, I jumped on it and now I am the proud owner of a '03 Softail Standard with drag bars, lowering kit, Basani drag pipes, and a stage 2 jet kit. I have lots of questions and I will be sure to search the forum for answers before asking them. I'm a moderator on a couple of Mopar forums, so I'm no newbie to forums...just HDs. Thanks in advance for any info ya'll provide me in the coming days/weeks/months! Here's my "new" ride...

Take the MSF course. Practise slow speed manouvers somewhere like an empty car park.
Always ride within your own limits (but see below).
Dont even consider inviting the wife to ride pillion until you're totally confident with riding the bike solo. Even then, if and when she does agree to come for a ride, ride well within her limits (rather than your own). If you scare her once, you're going to have a devil of a job talking her into getting onboard ever again.
Congratulations on the new (to you) ride, and welcome to the forum from Southeast Texas. It took me 18 years to convince my wife that I needed a motorcycle also and we've been riding together now for 2 years and she loves it.
