Hi, I am a new member and I like what i have been reading. Maybe some of you can help me out. I have owned a lot of bikes in the past, bought my first Harley 3 years ago, a 2005 Heritage it was a nice bike but I had a lot of lifter noise. I recently bought a 2009 Road King Classic, once again to much lifter chatter so much that it bothers me. I have talked to a lot of other riders, some say it is normal and some say they don't have that problem. I do not think it is normal when it sounds like it could blow at any time. I would like to here from any or all of you on my problem.
Howdy and welcome to the forum. You might want to re-post this in the softail or tech section, you will most likley get alot more replys. Harleys make alot of engine noise...prolly nothing wrong. Take care.
If U've had one for 3yrs with the noise and now a new one that sound the same and its just now bothering U...
The new one is still under warranty, so take it in a for a look see if anything is wrong...
There is a certain amount of top end noise.
All noises get louder when U try to hear them. Check it out and if its OK, Ride it and forget it.
Welcome aboard, not sure what you mean by "lifter noise", hydraulic lifters are pretty quiet (may rattle until the oil pressure pumps them up). Solid lifters do produce mechanical noise if the clearance is too wide, but your RK or your previous Softail definitely don't have solids.
Never had a RK, but you shouldn't have noisy lifters. Try posting your ? in the "Touring" forum.
Glad to have you join in the fun. Great place to hang around.... you may learn a little, may learn a lot, may not learn anything. But you will have a few good laughs and make some new friends. Welcome. Geez
