Hello from N. GA
This is my first post, but I have been reading a lot of the great information on this site for several months. I have a 2002 Road King Classic. My first Harley! I'm 41 and hadn't been on a bike since I was 17 back in the 80s. I had the fever on and off for a several years and finally gave in and bought a 2003 Kawasaki Vulcan Meanstreak in October 2008. I rode it for several months (through winter) and found out by trial and error what cold riding gear I needed one piece at a time. Although, not like a lot of colder places, N. GA does get cold, but not much snow/ice. I then traded a car that I had for a 1997 Yamaha Royalstar. The Yamaha was nice, heavy and very comfortable. My buddy and I decided to go to Daytona Bike Week this year (about 500 miles) and trailered the bikes down. He has an 07 Nightrod. This was my first biker rally and I really loved it. Although, Daytona this year was cold. It just one of those times when the weather got cold in Florida. The end of the week was much better though. I saw all the bikes down there and kinda felt out of place because I had a Yamaha. I couldn't see all the fuss of having a Harley! But, after a few days down there and seeing how Harley bikes could be customized to fit the personality of the the rider, I was hooked and wanted a Harley! Then when I got back home, I decided to look at a few Harleys and fell in love with the look of the Road King Classic. Found an 02 with 21k miles. I rode it and had to have it! I bought it and haven't looked back. I got it on April 1, 2009 and rode it all summer. The bike now has 33k miles. I sold the Kawasaki and Yamaha and now I don't think I will ever want to ride anything but a Harley. The feel, the sound. There's just something about riding a Harley that's hard to explain to those who just don't understand the difference between them and other makes. Anyway...sorry for the long post, but just wanted to tell my story on how I back into riding and loving Harley-Davidson bikes. I now can buy all the overpriced gear that says "Harley" and look forward to traveling to the next dealership that I've never been to.
