Default Greetings everyone.

Hello all. I am new to the forum. There is alot of good information out there. I do not yet own a Harley, but I am in the market for one. I was wanting some opinions from Harley owners out there. I know each Harley owner has its own taste, and each bike is different in its own right, but I would like a little advice please.

First of all, I am new rider... 6'2 and 185lbs..

I am currently taking riding lessons from a good friend's grandfather along with taking a motorcycle safety course here in the near future. A motorcycle is a big decision, so I dont want to rush into anything and make a smart decision.

But I am curious as to what bike will suit my needs better? My use for the bike will be two fold I would guess. I can see myself doing as much distance riding as city riding along with some 2 up riding. I have been looking at and reading up on the Sportster 1200C and the Dyna Super Glide. Will I fit comfortably on Sportster? With being a new rider, will the Dyna might be a bit too much bike out of the gate?

Please guys and gals, be honest with me! I am very open minded to opinions and suggestions! I also have been reading up on the stereotypes that are associated with all types of Harley bikes. Please leave that at the door as none of that concerns me at all, afterall it is a Harley!!!!

Thanks for reading and thank you for time!!

Tab10 welcome to the HDF, Steve from Az. As for the type of bike .i would go with the Heritage or Road King . I think they would fit you best and with riding two up more room . But go to the dealer and sit on a few and test drive them and see which one fits you the best. Good Luck and see you on the road !

Howdy, welcome to the forum. Your concerns are natural for a new rider. I personally don't feel qualified to tell you which Harley would be best for your needs because I have only had one Harley and it was bought last year. The main answer that I try go give people is this, try before you buy. Go down to your dealership and test drive a few of them and see which one feels the best for you. I've never ridden two up so I don't know which bikes would be the better for that. Good luck

Howdy from Dallas.

Being the same height, the Sporty would need fwd controls to be comfy. You'll be able to handle either fine. Get your license and test the ones you like and see what you prefer.

Howdy, I'm new here too but I'll throw in my 2 cents. With your size I agree you would at least need forward controls on a sportster to be remotely comfortable on long distance rides and sportsters aren't really comfortable at all on long trips for a passenger (or so says my wife).

As for being a first time rider, maybe it's just me, but the new sportsters seem to be geared a little high and might be hard to get used to as a beginner but I'm sure you'll be able to adapt to whatever one you decide on.

Unless you don't like the styling, you might want to try out a softail. They have a whole different feel from the saddle that either a sportster or a dyna.

Good Luck

Jim
